The truth about plastic pollution

Plastic pollution is affecting the future of our planet. It’s only in recent years that more people have become aware, as the problem becomes worse and horrific footage breaks out in to the mainstream. Plastic is a man made substance that our earth can not digest.

WHY DOESN'T PLASTIC BREAK DOWN?

Most plastic is manufactured from petroleum, the end product of a few million years of natural decay of once-living organisms. Petroleum’s main components come from lipids that were first assembled long ago in those organisms’ cells. But if petroleum-derived plastic comes from biomaterial, why doesn’t it biodegrade?

A crucial manufacturing step turns petroleum into a unnatural material that is unrecognisable to organisms that normally break down organic matter.

Given that these bonds are a completely unnatural structure that nature has not seen before, organisms are unable to break them down.
